The homestretch...
Sorry to my *3* fans for the lack of content. I was out of town for a few days and then it was down to business for an econ exam. Luckily all I have tomorrow is a pesky job interview so I get to spend a few minutes rambling on about nothing to you beautiful people. Some notes from the weekend:
Chris Shelton - From a week ago: "I really believe this man will hit .500 and mash at least 200 HRs." Silly me, he's only on pace to hit .471 with 112 HRs. No, I don't understand it either.
Vancouver Canucks - So they missed the playoffs, now the real work begins. If Nonis is everything the organization said he was, we'll be hovering around 9th again next season, with an eye for another 5-year run. He has pieces to deal, let's see how he uses them.
NBA MVP - I love Steve Nash. BC boy. Short and White. Everything I could ever dream of being (only with bad hair). But I'm sorry... to him and to King James. Mamba's gotta be it. Just has to be. I hate his shooting percentages, and his slumping rebound and assist numbers. But seriously, look at his team! Lamar Odom aside, is there anyone there that you would want starting on your team? Let's take the Raps... it'd be tough not to take Mike James, Charlie V and Pape Sow against Smush Parker, Brian Cook and Kwame Brown. We'll give Bosh an edge over Odom, and call the benches a draw. That leaves Kobe and MoPete. Now Mo has been better than I ever thought he'd be this year... and Kobe's gotten his team 17 more wins in a tougher conference. That's my argument. I hate him, but he has to be the MVP... without him, the Lakers are a cheaper, less talented version of the Knicks.
NBA Draft - Two words: Brandon. Roy. My considerable influence over NBA GM's will shine through any day now. Until then, he'll go in the middle of the lottery to a team that will immediately enjoy a 12-5-4 guy who plays defense. I really can't wait to see this Italian kid I keep hearing about... Chad Ford says some people around the league think he's the top prospect in the draft. No one would take him at #1, but I haven't heard this much Nowitzki talk since Nikoloz Tskitishvili... and he turned out GREAT.
Some more MLB - The Mets are getting way to much positive play... look for a huge swoon soon. Kenji Johjima (.364-2-10) looks great so far. Ichiro (.190-1-4) and Adrian Beltre (.144-0-0) do not. Despite this, the M's are only a half game back of the division leaders (with identical 6-7 records). There's no way Albert "Pooey" Pujols is only a year older than me. Good to see Vernon Wells off to such a great start (.420-5-12, 2 SB) with some help in the lineup.
The best (only) team I've ever worked for - Yes fans, my beloved Ottawa Lynx are the worst team in the IL North so far, with a 5-6 record. But get this, they have Fernando Tatis on the team, and he's hitting .355! How he hit 34 HRs in a season, I'll never know. BTW, Delmon Young (the future man for the Devil Rays) is hitting .391... no power yet, but 9(!) stolen bases. Yikes.
That's all for now kids, I have to get back to real work. Back soon with my "NHL Playoff Super Extravaganza and Chili Cookoff."
